Gunmetal for high requirements
Gunmetal is a copper alloy which is used in many technical products. Gunmetal is a corrosion resistant material with a high hardness and wear resistance, which makes it capable of withstanding heavy loads. Nevertheless, gunmetal is easy to machine, which makes it equally suitable for many manufacturing processes. In order to meet the high requirements of drinking water regulations, we also cast a low-lead variant of gunmetal in our foundry, fulfilling all REACH and RoHS requirements.
Our gunmetal alloys
We cast the following gunmetal alloys among others:
- Gunmetal RG 5 (CuSn5Zn5Pb5)
- Gunmetal RG 5 low-lead (CuSn5Zn5Pb2)
- Gunmetal RG7 (CuSn7Zn4Pb7)
- Gunmetal RG10 (CuSn10Zn)
Bronze alloys suitable also for seawater
Bronze alloys are also copper alloys. Bronze alloys are wear-resistant as well as hard materials. Machining is more difficult compared to gunmetal, but still possible. Bronze alloys stand out for their very good corrosion resistance, especially against sea water. Copper-tin alloys are also used with other additives. The addition of nickel increases the strength and is used, for example, for more heavily loaded bearings. Lead as a further additive is used for easier machinability and better emergency operating features.
